With reference to youegram No.814 of 13th June on the subject of claims by the Common- wealth Government for the reimbursement of expenditure made in connection with the payment of allowances to evacuees from Hong Kong, I have the honour to enclose herewith, for transmission to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, schedules certified by Mr. B. E. Maughan, the Hong Kong Finance Liaison officer, of expenditure for the months of September 1941 to March 1942 inclusive.

family remittances (non-Government servants } detailing in each case the name of recipient, the amount and particulars of the person ma

ing the allotment.

-

(c) maintenance allowances full details of

weekly payments authorised under the official evacuation scheme.

(d) volunteer allowances - full details of paykent.

to wives, giving particulars of rank etc. of volunteer.

(e) other expenditure.

It is pointed out that all payments made on account of family remittances both official and unofficial would have been recovered by the Hong Kong Treasury up to and including the month of November 1941 and it would therefore only appear necessary to furnish nominal rolls of payments from December 1941 with the necessary information to enable the Crown Agents for the Colonies to debit the salary of an official with family remittances and to record particulars of any recoverable family remittances made on behalf of a nɔn- official on 1st January and 1st February for recovery. at some future date. Family remittances in the for of advances to dependents of non-officials ceased o

1st February, the recipients being placed on maintenance allowances at basic rates as from 16th February, 1942.
